Parishes across the Diocese of Arundel & Brighton took up the offer of an anonymous orchard to grab themselves a free apple tree or two!
Earlier this year, the Journey to 2030 team received a generous offer from a local orchard to share their top-quality apple trees with our diocese – and we were more than happy to jump right in and share the news with our network. Given the size of our diocese, this was not an easy task but thanks to a great team of helpers were were able to distribute 52 apple trees to all corners of Arundel & Brighton (to a total of 12 parishes).
We know that the simple gesture of planting a tree can have a huge impact on the community – Pope Francis says that tree planting can “reflect a generous and worthy creativity which brings out the best in human beings” [Laudato Si’ 211]. These apple trees, distributed as a part of the diocesan Journey to 2030 campaign, are a symbol of our commitment to caring for Creation – and are pieces of carbon capture technology in their own right!
We want to say a huge thank you to the orchard, as well as all those involved in the distribution, storing and planting of these trees. We hope that they will flourish in your parishes and provide you with many years of apple crumbles!
